MATERIALS & CRAFTSMANSHIP

What makes ASORA different from other satin-lined brands?

At ASORA, we use silk satin in our premium line of products— a natural silk fiber woven in a satin finish. Many brands use synthetic satin. Satin refers only to the weave, not the fiber. Silk satin offers superior breathability, moisture balance, and reduced friction, helping preserve hair health while maintaining elegance. When a product does not contain 100% silk satin, it will be noted in the materials section of the product.

Is satin the same as silk?

No. Satin is a type of weave, not a material. It can be made from polyester, nylon, or silk. In our premium line of products, we use silk satin, combining the smooth satin weave with the natural benefits of silk fiber. It is 100% silk that is made in a satin weave. Silk is generally better for lining hats to protect one's hair because it is a natural, breathable, and hypoallergenic fiber that reduces friction, prevents frizz, and maintains hair moisture better than polyester. When a product does not contain 100% silk satin, it will be noted in the materials section of the product.

Why is silk better for hair?

Silk helps reduce friction, minimize breakage, and retain moisture. Unlike many synthetic fabrics, silk is breathable and less likely to trap heat, making it ideal for preserving the health and integrity of your crown.

What is mulberry silk?

Mulberry silk is the highest quality form of silk, made from silkworms that are fed a diet of mulberry leaves. This results in longer, finer, and more uniform fibers, giving the fabric its signature smoothness, strength, and natural luminous sheen. Mulberry silk is considered premium for its exceptional softness, durability, and refined finish. Its naturally smooth fibers are gentle on the hair and skin, helping to reduce friction while maintaining a polished, elegant appearance.

What does “momme” mean in silk, and why does it matter?

“Momme” (mm) is a unit used to measure the weight and density of silk. It reflects how thick, durable, and luxurious the fabric feels.

Lower momme silk (such as 16–19 momme) is lighter and more delicate, while higher momme silk (such as 22 momme and above) is denser, smoother, and more durable.

22 momme silk is widely regarded as a premium standard in luxury silk products. It offers a perfect balance of softness, strength, and longevity, with a richer feel and more substantial drape compared to lower momme silk.

Do ASORA bonnets make your head hot?

No. ASORA bonnets and scrub caps are intentionally designed with a breathable premium polyester–spandex performance fabric that helps wick moisture away from the scalp. This helps regulate temperature and keep you comfortable during long shifts, while the satin lining protects your hair from friction and dryness.

PRODUCT CARE

How should I care for my ASORA piece?

To preserve the integrity of the silk satin lining:

• Hand washing is recommended, however washer use on the gentle cycle using a mesh bag is done without issue. You can purchase an ASORA Crown Care Wash Bag here: Click for Mesh Bag

• Use cold water

• Mild detergent only

• Lay flat to dry

• Avoid harsh wringing or twisting

With proper care, your piece will maintain both structure and softness.

Can I machine wash my item?

We recommend hand washing to maintain the longevity of the silk lining. But machine washing using a delicate cycle inside a garment bag and air dry only can be done without issue.

Why do I have to avoid heat with satin products?

Silk satin can lose sheen and weaken with heat or harsh detergents.

Spandex breaks down under high heat (dryer = reduced elasticity).

Cold water helps preserve both color and stretch.

How can I store my items?

Store in a cool and dry location. The ASORA Travel Pouch is designed to store your bonnets and caps with the same care and intention they were created with.
